Description
We live on a peaceful lifestyle block near West Melton with a large, warm 3 bedroom house. We are in need of housesitter(s) for approximately 9 weeks that will manage all of our animals while we are away. We have two very energetic farm dogs (pets), one cat, 4 chooks, 5 pet kunekune pigs and 20-odd sheep (with lambs).
Housesitters should be experienced with dogs, as you will need to be able to manage our two dogs, a huntaway/border collie cross and a heading dog. They have endless energy and can be naughty if you let them. If you manage their obedience and provide them with a routine that we usually give them each day, you will enjoy them. They are happy to sit outside on a nice day, go for an afternoon walk at the nearby river, and sleep inside during the evenings.
Our cat is 18 years old and a cuddly lap cat. She will sleep most of the day inside. She uses a litter box now.
Our four chooks are great egg producers, so if you fill their automatic feeder and let them in/out of their run every day, you will get several eggs a day.
The kunekune pigs are extremely friendly and are used to free-ranging around the house. They are fed twice a day when we let them in/out of their yard/hut area.
The sheep and their lambs are also reasonably friendly but mostly self-sufficient. For this stay, you will need to ensure that they have water in their trough, feed a bit of hay on particularly cold mornings and open/close a gate to let them into another paddock while you are here.
We have a veggie garden that I will stock up before the trip, and if the weather is dry, I would ask you to water it once or twice a week.
In exchange, our house is very warm and comfortable and very quiet in a peaceful garden setting surrounded by lots of landscaping and trees. We hope you will enjoy living here and looking after our animals!
